Several types of unhealthy chemical compounds such as acrylamides, acrolein, heterocyclic amines, oxysterols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) get released when food is cooked on high flame. Several chemicals have been linked to an increased risk of cancer and heart disease.

  • Aerated sweet drinks

Aerated sweet drinks are one of the worst ingredients in the modern lifestyle. However, some sources of sweeteners are worse than others, and aerated drinks are particularly harmful. The human brain is unable to register liquid calories as food. Hence, you may end up increasing your total calorie intake. Consuming large amounts of aerated sweet drink can drive insulin resistance. It is linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver, type II diabetes, and heart diseases. It is believed that aerated sweet drinks are the most fattening aspect of the modern diet. Consuming sugar in large amounts can lead to fat gain and obesity.

  • Processed meat

Unprocessed meat is considered healthy and nutritious but processed meat is harmful. Studies show that people who consume processed meats possess an increased risk of serious ailments, including obesity, blood pressure, colon cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart diseases. However, the studies are observational to blame processed meat. But the statistical link is consistent between studies. Meat that went through preservation methods such as curing, smoking, and salting is known as processed meat. The meat contains loads of preservatives and chemicals. Eating processed meat doesn’t make you unhealthy. If you aren’t conscious of what you eat, you’ll develop unhealthy eating habits. People who avoid processed meat are likely to make healthier food choices. Once you start avoiding processed meat, you’ll be more mindful of what you take in. It may encourage you to start eating lean meat.

  • Fruit juices

People may think consuming a glass of fruit juice in the morning is helping them get an extra serving of fruit. The truth is, you aren’t doing good to yourself if you drink fruit juice in the morning. Even if you make sure that juice contains no high fructose corn syrup or added sugar, it is still full of sugar. One medium-sized orange contains 9 gm of sugar. It takes four oranges to make just 235 ml of orange juice. This is how sugar content quickly multiplies. It can lead to obesity and unusual weight gain. Excessive weight gain is associated with high blood pressure, hypertension, stroke, and diabetes.

  • White sugar

Until recently, it wasn’t obvious that sugar is a serious cause of obesity than fat. According to research, most of the people consume 90 or more gm of sugar daily, while the recommended amount remains at 50 gm per day. The WHO has an even more restrictive recommendation at only 25 gm per day. Excess of sugar is harmful in many ways. Increased consumption of White refined sugar causes unusual weight gain, heart disease, acne, type II diabetes, depression, and cellular aging.

  • Junk food

There are plenty of reasons such as the increased risk of dementia, depression, uncontrollable cravings, high amount of fats, tons of refined carbs and sugars, and the list goes on to avoid fast food. The only reason you probably aren’t aware of is the danger of phthalates. The concern is, hazardous chemicals used in the wrapping paper on your burger or sandwich leach from the packaging into your food. Hence, you end up consuming substances that were never designed for human consumption and are potentially cancer-causing.

  • White refined flour

Maida or Refined flour contains plenty of calories and no nutritional value. It is obtained from Wheat grain that is full of nutrients including fiber, vitamins, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and selenium. The process of obtaining refined flour makes it harmful to the human body. During the process, all the fiber content gets removed and that makes it flour with zero nutrients. It is the finest variety of wheat flour used in making bread, samosa, pizza base, and other snack items. The bleaching process gives it the white color and makes it appealing to the eyes. Food products prepared with refined flour has a hazardous chemical called Sodium Meta Bisulphate (SMBS) and Benzoic acid that can be dangerous for pregnant women and kids. According to experts, overconsumption of refined flour can cause diabetes, obesity, digestive problems, liver damage, and kidney damage.
