Migraine is a condition in which people feel headaches in any specific region of the head. This headache is often accompanied by other problems like nausea. This headache cause pain for several hours. The intensity and extent of this pain vary from person to person.

Migraine can be triggered by a number of stimulating factors like loud sounds, flashy lights, anxiety, some smells and medicines. Although it is lesser know, migraine is triggered by some foods as well. Here we are enlisting 8 foods that you should refrain from eating to keep migraine at bay.

  • Keep your spirit low for spirits:

According to research published in the National Library of Medicine, 35% of migraine patients feel that after drinking alcohol their migraine gets triggered. Especially red wine drinkers are more troubled by migraine headaches. Drinking alcohol causes dehydration in the body, which leads to headaches.

  • Chocolates invite your migraine:

 Barring alcohol, chocolates are the most common food that triggers migraine. According to the American Migraine Foundation, 22% of migraine patients observed that their headache starts after munching on a bar of chocolate. Ingredients like caffeine and beta-phenylethylamine give rise to migraine headaches.

  • Coffee is not always a relaxant:

People often drink coffee to get relaxed, but if you have the problem of migraine, then be wary of consuming it. As mentioned above, drinking excessive amounts of caffeine can increase your headache. Caffeine is most commonly found in tea, coffee and chocolate.

 Ajinomoto or Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used to enhance the taste of food. It is added mostly to Chinese soups and non-vegetarian cuisines. Besides, other ill effects on health, it is harmful to migraine patients.

  • Processed meat can trouble you:

 Meats such as ham, hot dogs and sausages contain a variety of chemicals, artificial colours and preservatives. These preservatives are very harmful to our bodies. Other harmful effects may not appear easily but processed meat can trigger migraine just after a few hours of consumption.

  • No more old Cheese please:

Old cheeses contain a substance called tyramine, which causes migraines and other types of headaches. Tyramine is most commonly found in feta, blue cheese and Parmesan.

  • Avoid frozen food:

Having frozen eatables such as ice cream, slurpees and slush can trigger an acute headache. Migraine is easily triggered immediately by eating frozen food.
