What is seasonal depression and how to get rid of this?

Do you also feel low, sad and feel less zest during the seasonal transition. Well, this is not just you, this is seasonal depression, which is very common. Today, we will see why this happens?

What are the symptoms of seasonal depression?

The symptoms varies from person to person. However, there are some common symptoms

  • Irritability
  • Feeling of sadness and hopelessness.
  • Fall in energy level.
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Inability to focus at work
  • Forgetfulness
  • Loss or increase in appetite
  • More anger

 Winter seasonal depression:

  • Due to lack of sunlight in winter season, our body clock gets disturbed, due to which we start getting symptoms of depression.
  • The amount of serotonin chemical in the brain decreases. It has a bad effect on our mood. This also happens due to lack of sunlight.
  • With the change of season, the amount of melatonin hormone increases. This hormone is responsible for our good sleep.  Due to its influence, our sleep cycle changes. Sleeping too much can make us feel depressed.

  • Some people cannot tolerate extreme heat. In such a situation, they start having trouble with sunlight. Too much sunlight brings a sense of despair in people.
  • People’s sleep cycle gets disturbed by strong sunlight.  Due to low levels of melatonin hormone, they have trouble sleeping. Due to this, symptoms of depression start coming in them.
  • Unlike winter, the amount of the chemical serotonin in the brain increases. People with social anxiety disorder start having more serotonin.

How to avoid this situation?

  • E seasonal fruits, vegetables, high nutrition diet.
  • Always get enough sleep. The habit of sleeping and waking up on time every day can help you get rid of sleep problems.
  • To control irritability and anger, keep your mind calm.  For this, drink more and more water, stay in good ventilation and wear comfortable clothes.
  • Exercising daily will help you to overcome stress, depression and anxiety.
  • By doing meditation, you can get rid of the negative thoughts in the mind.
  • Spend some time on your hobby activities like painting, singing etc.
  • Take healthy diet and avoid having Junk food, high carbohydrate food and fried spicy food. Try to include seasonal fruits, vegetables, high nutritional things in your diet.
  • Keep in touch with your family and friends. L
  • Try to follow a daily routine strictly. With this, the mind will not be distracted anywhere and you will feel more productive.
