Dark circles are tough to get rid of and they tend to make one look tired, stressed, and old. It can be caused by sun exposure, stress, aging, lack of sleep, allergies, and genetics. Dark circles and under-eye bags can hamper your confidence. Besides taking adequate rest and care of your eyes, it is also important to exercise daily as it aids in increasing the oxygen supply to the optic nerves and reduces the pressure on the eyes. 

Tired and puffy eyes are a tell-tale sign of long working hours, stressful lifestyles, and lack of sleep. You might have tried it all, from drinking gallons of water to getting beauty sleep but there’s no match to homemade eye masks. With plenty of ingredients that can be easily found at the grocery store, these masks are easy to make and incorporate into your skincare routine. Below are such hydrating DIY eye masks projects to spice up your skincare routine.

Cucumber and Rose Eye Mask

It is one of the best DIY eye masks to reduce under-eye circles and puffiness. Cucumber and Rose mask is beneficial for hydration and glow. Cucumber has plenty of water and anti-oxidants. Rosewater is soothing.

Ingredients

1tsp of a minced cucumber

1 tsp of Rosewater

Cotton rounds 

Method

you will blend the cucumber into a mask, in collaboration with the rose water.

Mix 1 tsp of minced cucumber with 1 tsp of rose water. 

Dip a cotton rounds into the above mixture and place it under the eyes for 10 minutes

Rinse off gently with normal water and pat dry.

  • Milk and Baking Soda Eye Mask

The milk is used to aid in alleviating tired eyes while the baking soda is used to help the eyes look healthy and smooth.

Ingredients

4 tbsp milk

2 tbsp Baking soda

Method

Blend milk and baking soda to create a paste with a creamy consistency. 

Allow it to refrigerate, so that it will cool your eyes while you use it. 

Allow the mask to sit for around 25 minutes

Remove it with cold water

  • Coffee – Honey – Vitamin E oil Eye Mask

This mask tightens and firms the skin. It is beneficial for relieving Puffy eyes and pesky crow’s feet.

Ingredients

1 tbsp of coffee

1 tbsp of honey

1 tsp of vitamin E oil

Cotton pads

Method

Prepare black coffee and allow it to cool.

Add honey and the vitamin E oil to the coffee

Dip the cotton pads into the mixture. Freeze them in a bag. 

Dab it below the eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Cherry Eye Mask

Cherries are loaded with vitamin C which is known for its antioxidant properties and ability to brighten skin. Cherry repairs oxidative damage. You can use the leftovers of Cherry smoothy as a topical under-eye mask. Oat milk has soothing and healing properties. Banana is high in vitamin B6 and restores skin elasticity 

Ingredients

1 cup oat milk

½ cup of frozen banana, 

½ cup frozen cherries

1 tsp manuka honey

Method

Measure 1 Tbsp. of leftover smoothie into a small dish.

Add 1 tsp Manuka Honey 

Mix well, and apply around your eyes. 

Rinse it off after 15 mins

  • Turmeric and Lemon Mask

Turmeric powder and lemon juice helps brighten under eyes after just a few applications. Turmeric is known for its healing as well as its brightening properties. Lemon juice lightens dark circles as well as cools the skin.

Ingredients

2 tsp of turmeric powder

2 tbsp of lemon juice

Method

Mix turmeric powder and lemon juice

Make a paste and apply it around the eyes for around 30 minutes.

Wash it off with water 

  • Potato and Mint Mask

Potato slices offer the cooling effect the skin. It reduces the vascular congestion to improve the appearance of this area. Mint causes a tingling sensation, which increases blood flow to the area. Hence, it can help dark circles fade away.

Ingredients

Few mint leaves (five to six) 

1 Potato

Water as needed

A couple of cotton pads

Method

Blend the potato and the mint after removing the potato skin

Add a bit of water to thin the mixture. 

Dip the cotton pads into the mixture and place them in a bag to freeze them.

After 30 mins place them over your eyes

Allow it to sit for about 25 minutes.

  • Kiwi and Yogurt Eye Mask

Yogurt smoothens the skin. Kiwi is a rich source of vitamin C which brightens and tightens the skin. The mask will make your skin bright, smooth, and rejuvenated.

Ingredients

1 Kiwi 

2 tbsp of yogurt     

Method

Blend the kiwi and the yogurt. 

Refrigerate the mixture in a small jar for about 15 minutes. 

Apply the mask around the eyes and leave it for about 10 minutes.

Rinse off with water

  • Aloe Vera, Egg white and Carrot Eye Mask

Aloe vera, Egg white, and carrot mask are beneficial if you struggle with dark circles. The ingredients make a powerful combo of retinol, vitamins, and protein. You can apply this mask to the rest of your face as well. This mask is full of Vitamin A. Hence, the skin will look rejuvenated.

Ingredients

1 Egg white

1 tbsp of shredded carrot

1 tsp of aloe vera.

Method

Combine the ingredients in a bowl to make a paste.

Apply the mixture with a brush around the eyes or whole face. 

Leave it for about 25 minutes.

Rinse it off with water.

  • Turmeric and Yogurt Eye Mask

Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for many years. It has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties which help brighten skin and add a natural glow to it. Yogurt contains lactic acid which helps to exfoliate the skin gently. Hence, it will gently remove dead skin cells and make your under-eye skin look bright.

Ingredients

1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1 tablespoon of yogurt

Method

Mix both the ingredients to make a smooth paste.

Apply the mixture on your under-eye area in large semi-circles. You can either do this with your fingertips or with a makeup brush.

Leave it on your skin for 25 minutes 

Gently wash it off with warm water.

Apply some fragrance-free eye cream to your under-eye
