Yoga includes an array of asanas for different aspects of well-being. These help to calm our body and the mind. Yoga helps to harness the physical, mental and spiritual energies of the body. It helps to combat pressure and stresses in today’s world. It is one of the most effective ways to keep fit and focused. A few minutes or an hour daily ensures an active and healthy mind and body.

Yoga has been known to be beneficial for adults and its holistic healing nature is sure to benefit kids of all ages too. Kids, today feel as many pressures as their parents or any adult for that matter. The pressure of studies, sports and performance anxiety all lead to stress. The kids are also distracted easily thanks to the gadgets and toys. Pollution and unhealthy eating habits also have an adverse effect on their health. It is in this scenario that yoga comes in handy.

Here are a few yoga asanas that will help to improve your child’s physical and mental awareness:Adho Mukhasvansana

  • Adho Mukhasvanasana – The Dog Pose: It involves balancing the weight on the legs and the hand in an inverted ‘U’ position. It improves blood circulation in the body. It also serves as a good stretching exercise for improving flexibility.
  • Vrikshasana – The Tree Pose: The child is made to stand in one leg and then fold the knee of the other leg to place it over the thigh of the leg used to balance the weight of the body.
  • Virabhadrasana I – Warrior Pose I: It increases body balance and core strength for the kids. It is useful in creating a positive image about their own body, increasing their self-confidence. It is also helpful in easing any pain in the chest, ankle, knee, and arms.
  • Tadasana – The Mountain Pose: It ensures an erect posture for the kids.

Uttanasana

  • Uttanasana – The Rag Doll Pose: This asana stretches the muscles considerably making it less prone to injury.
  • Baddha Konasana – The Butterfly Pose: This asana is helpful in strengthening and flexing the inner thigh muscles.
  • Setu Bandhasana – The Bridge Pose: This asana causes the reverse flow of blood to the torso and the head and re-oxygenates these regions. It is very helpful improving stamina, immunity and streamlining blood flow.
  • Pranayama – Breathing Exercises: These asanas modulate the breathing pattern and have calming effects on the body and improve the self-awareness levels.
