Weird Sounds That Our Bodies Make And What They Mean

Our body is a living ecosystem in and of itself. It is an eclectic amalgamation of a multitude of processes, each having a different function and each working towards a particular goal. All of these processes come together to define, create and sustain life as we know it. Naturally, there are many indications that they give out to signal various incidences. Many of them are in the form of pretty weird sounds.

1. Whistling

When you have to whistle through your nose, it usually indicates clogged respiratory airways. It tells you to clear up the passage for the enhanced flow of air.

2. Sneezing

This is an extremely common reaction of the body to a variety of instances, which may be quite innocuous. This is usually accompanying a type of allergy, which may be anything from photosensitivity to cold.

3. Whooshing

Whooshing in the ears usually happens when the external sounds are blocked and you hear the rush of blood through the veins and arteries, like the carotid artery. Usually, this may signal a congested airway which results in blocking external sounds.

4. Ringing

This is called ringing in the ear or “tinnitus”. This occurs with the advancement in age, or in case of any infection. The hair follicles in the ear are activated even without sound, leading to sending the brain sound signals, resulting in ringing.

5. Belching

This sound, amazing though it may sound, usually occurs when you swallow “air”. Typical instances include talking while eating and indulgence in carbonated drinks. It signifies air getting out of the stomach.

6. Rumbling

Rumbling sounds emanating from the belly is the sound of air and fluid while being moved by muscles through the digestive tract. Noise despite being on an empty stomach could mean that the gut is sweeping out leftover debris, and it is probably mealtime.

7. Farting

Farting is the sound of your gut flora, while they break down fiber-rich foods, like vegetables. The products after metabolism include methane, nitrogen and hydrogen gas, and they are expelled through the rectum, sometimes leading to farting.

8. Slurping

This is a reflex sound that our body makes while we enjoy something delicious in the liquid form. We usually enjoy the taste and the liquid/ semi-liquid substance causes a slurping sound to occur during such times.

Our body is quite adept at creating sounds. Listening closely, we can gather the clues and take cues from them to get set right the bodily functions.
