What Are The Basics Of Brushing?

Select The Equipment That Suits Your Mouth

The first and most important step is to select the brush, toothpaste and tongue cleaner that suits your mouth. Brush with hard bristles can harm your gums. You can also use an electric toothbrush that will help to remove the plaque in an effective manner than manual brushing. Always select the toothpaste that contains fluoride in it. Hygiene of your tongue is as important as the teeth and gums. So use a proper tongue cleaner after your brushing.

How Often You Should Brush Your Teeth And When?

Dentists recommend brushing the teeth twice a day Morning after you get up and at night before you go to bed. While you brush your teeth you should spend a minimum of two minutes and don’t be in a hurry. Always hold your toothbrush towards the area where the tooth and gum joints. Brush gently in a circular motion inside and outside of the teeth. Don’t forget to clean your tongue also.

Maintenance Of The Equipment

After each use wash your brush and tongue cleaner with clean water and place it in an upright position. Make sure that your brush is getting dry. Keeping it in closed boxes can promote the growth of bacteria and fungus on the brush which can harm your health. Try to replace your brush once in three months or if its bristles become faded or damaged.

Flossing

Brushing can keep your teeth clean and tidy but what about the space in between the teeth and under the gum line? Here comes the importance of flossing.

flossing

Take about 18 inches of floss and tie the one half around your middle finger and tie the rest of the end on your opposite middle finger. Then hold the floss between your thumb and forefinger. Gently rub the floss between the teeth and gums. When the floss reaches your gum line, curve it against one tooth making a c shape. Repeat the procedure for the rest of the teeth. Replace the floss after every use. If you are not comfortable with this flossing technique, you can use water floss or wooden wedge plaque remover.

If you are suffering from bleeding gums, sensitivity, bad breath or loss of teeth then it will be better to consult a dentist for your oral health.
