by Shatakshi Gupta

A lump or a cyst in the breast is a typical sign of breast cancer. When cancer cells multiply, this leads to the development of an unnatural mass of cells in the breast, which can be easily detected by touch. However, in rare cases of breast cancer, there are no lumps or uneven cell growth, which in these cases often go undiagnosed.

But apart from the lumps, some additional symptoms may also appear when suffering from this type of cancer.Knowing these symptoms is as important as getting diagnosed with breast cancer as soon as possible and starting treatment to stop its growth before it spreads to other parts of the body. Besides, lumps following 5 symptoms are also indications of breast cancer.

Discharge from nipples

It is not normal to have any kind of discharge from the nipple. Usually, in the case of breast cancer, there is a yellow, green or red liquid discharge from the nipple. If you are not breastfeeding your baby and you still have nipple discharge, consult your doctor immediately. Not all nipple discharges are caused by cancer, but it’s advisable to consult a doctor. Other causes of nipple discharge include breast infections, side effects of birth control pills, and certain medical conditions such as thyroid disease.

Pain in breast

Although breast cancer is painless, sometimes suffering from this condition causes pain in the breast and nipple. This is due to a change in texture that often increases tenderness, as well as can cause pain and discomfort. It is better not to ignore these signs and consult a doctor to get sure about the cause of the discomfort so that timely treatment can be done.

Changing texture of breasts’ skin

If someone is vulnerable to breast cancer, a change in the skin texture of the breast can be seen. It is caused by inflammation caused by the growth of cancer cells. This can also make a difference in the colour of the skin. The skin on your breasts may appear scaly around the nipples and areola, and it may also appear thick in some areas. Even eczema and dermatitis in the breasts can be a sign of a rare type of breast cancer.

Retracted nipples

Breast cancer can cause changes in the cells of your nipples that cause them to turn inward. Nipple changes often appear during ovulation and sometimes between periods. If you notice any such changes, consult a doctor.

Redness and swelling

In breast cancer, your skin may appear bruised and swollen. The skin may appear red, purple or blue. If you haven’t gone through any traumatic event recently, don’t treat these symptoms as minor and consult your doctor. Along with bruising, look for signs of swelling in the breast. Such change also requires immediate attention.
